Many of our employees are ICPI certified and our engineer Tony Smith can assure the structural integrity of your project.

Preparing the surface-Using quality products means nothing without proper site preparation. Before the base is put in a separation fabric is rolled out on the compacted sub-base to act as a moisture barrier. This fabric also keeps weeds from growing through. Next is the aggregate base which is the backbone of any project we do. Laser transits are used to achieve the right grade, and fall. If proper grade and fall are not achieved water can get trapped and create puddling which is an inconvenience and is unattractive. Next, the base is compacted which locks ensuring the integrity of the rest of the job.

Laying the pavers- The next step is screeding one inch of course concrete sand. This inch of sand is a leveling base. Once the pavers are laid on the sand the cuts are made and the job really starts to take shape. All of our flatwork is secured by an edge restraint and 10” galvanized spikes.

Creating the interlock- After the pavers are placed, cut, and edge restraints are installed it’s time to broom sand over the entire job. Once the sand is swept into all the joints a flat carpet tamper is run locking the pavers in place. These pavers will not move! It’s truly amazing! Finally more sand is swept in the joints to give that finished look. The sand used for the joints is different from the course concrete sand used in the sand bedding. It is known as polymeric sand. After the sand is swept into the joints it is wetted enabling it to lock together. This reduces weed growth, insect invasion, and wash-out. Polymeric sand is essential for pool decks and areas with steep slopes where washout is more common. We do recommend polymeric sand for all jobs. The sand comes in either brown or grey to best match your paver application.

Cleaning and sealing- Pavers can be cleaned to remove efflorescence. Efflorescence is a whitish powderlike deposit that’s common on concrete products. Although they will disappear over time many customers choose to have their pavers cleaned. Cleaners can also remove rust stains, tar, and rubber. Pavers should always be cleaned before they are sealed to allow sealer to properly penetrate pavers. Sealers are used to enhance the color of the pavers and help protect the pavers from stains. Some sealers leave a wet look without leaving the pavers slippery, and other sealers leave the natural look while still protecting the pavers.
